Abdullah ibn Salaam was a sahabi said to have been a rabbi of aristocratic stock before converting to Islam . He lived in Madinah before the time of Rasullulah. At that time there were several tribes living alongside the Arab tribes of the Aws and the Khazraj. These Jewish tribes were quite wealthy in land and possessions. Like people everywhere, some of them were sincere believers and some of them were not.
He is credited with a large corpus of Judaic traditions .
