Islam is a minority religion in Singapore. 15% of the country's population are Muslims.
A majority of Malay Singaporeans are Sunni Muslims. Other adherents include Indian and Pakistani communities as well as a small number of Chinese, Arabs and Eurasians. 7% of Muslims in Singapore are of Indian origin. While the majority of Muslims in Singapore are traditionally Sunni Muslims who follow the Shafi'i school of thought, there are also Muslims who follow the Hanafi school of thought as well as Shia Muslims.
There are 69 mosques in Singapore. With the exception of Masjid Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim (which is administered by the State of Johor), all the mosques in Singapore are administered by Muis. 23 mosques were built using the Mosque Building and Mendaki Fund (MBMF). Masjid Al-Mawaddah, the twenty-third MBMF mosque, was officially opened in May 2009.
